Blue one 89
Im sorry to say, from passed experience, their is no cure, once a shit eater, all ways a shit eater, just one of them things. I have in the passed tryd, pineapple, rock sulphur ect ect, nothing works.. Some pups do this a wee bit, but some, grow out of it, the out and out shit eaters eat any dog crap and still do when they have grown. Hound breeds, greyhounds, whippets gun dog breeds seem more prone to it. Im lucky, to have dogs that are not shit eaters at the moment. Not a good thing to have in a running dogs, about to go coursing or lamping and its stomach full of dog crap.. Edited February 11, 2011 by Blue one
scalesntails 118
I had a dog that would pull stuff out of the bin and eat it everytime I went out. One day I was making myself a sandwich and put far too much chili in it so the sandwich went in the bin and the dog pulled it out. It never stuck its head in the bin again. In case anyone is wondering it was this sauce http://www.chilliworld.com/SP6.asp?p_id=41 Edit: You will either have to eat a few vindaloos and crap in the kitchen or sprinkle some sauce on a poo and leave it where the dog will grab it. Guest chook
Look at what your feeding - as sometimes that can cause it, food like wag is known to cause dogs to eat the crap of dogs who have been fed it.

Wild Whippies 11
I don't believe they're lacking in anything. Dogs fed high protein feed will expel a certain amount of protein that isn't being used by the body. Older dogs don't utilise their food as well as young ones which makes their poo the most ''attractive'' Altering the feed, I feel doesn't stop the habit. Think of working dogs like growing or hardworking men, their need for high protein food in insatiable. I think when you accept the dog is basically recycling, you can understand there's nothing lacking in the diet and that's why nothing works. However........ let them do it and it'll become a permanent habit. Don't get me wrong, I do tell them off with the usual ''oi'' or ''no'' but giving them a really hard time about it just makes them sneaky in my experience. With ours we're on their case as youngsters ( I suspect the growing youngster is just like the teenage lad who can eat ridiculous amounts of food). We go out our way to make sure everywhere's cleaned up, muzzling those who are sods for it so we get the chance! Out on walks, I take a handful of their dried food in my pocket and basically call them over when they think about doing it. It seems to curb the habit of looking for poo, gives them something to feel like they've eaten at least something but also makes training dogs to recall a breeze. If the dog is too far gone into the habit, it's a nightmare to break but splitting their meal to being fed twice or even three times a day may help. Sometimes pineapple does work. It contains a protein digesting enzyme. Nothing to do with the dog lacking in something, just a means of breaking down the protein that would be available in the dogs poo. Obviously all the dogs on the premises need to be given it (along with every dog in your locality if there habit goes beyond your garden). This of course simply isn't a workable solution which is why I suspect it doesn't work for some.

What would you advise for getting it stopped? make sure there no shit lying about for it to eat. My bitch is shocking for it! I saw her as a pup running up behind the terriers everytime they squatted - she had them tortured. They have separate supervised toilet sessions now. I really don't think there is a 'cure' as such.
